Slovenia

During my break from postcards and blogging my preferences haven't changed, so waterfall cards are still among my favourite ones. Karmen sent me this wonderful card of a Slovene waterfall. More precisely, it's Waterfall Peričnik in the Vrata valley. There are many many beautiful waterfalls in Slovenia, so bad this is only my first card... But there are many more to come, I'm sure :D

Karmen used matching stamp - the one depicting Peričnik! Thanks, Karmen :)

Slovenia

Ljubljana is the capital of Slovenia, and with approximately 280,000 inhabitants, it is classified as the only Slovenian large town. The postcard, sent to me by my dear sis, shows the Franciscan Church of the Annunciation located on Prešeren Square.   It is the parish church of Ljubljana - Annunciation Parish. Its red colour is symbolic of the Franciscan monastic order. Next to the church there is a Franciscan Monastery founded in 1233. The monastery is notable for its library, containing more than 70,000 books, including many incunabulae and medieval manuscripts

Slovenia

A great Slovenian view was waiting for me in the mailbox today! The view is just breathtaking.
The Julian Alps are a mountain range of the Southern Limestone Alps that stretches from northeastern Italy to Slovenia, where they rise to 2,864 m at Mount Triglav. They are named after Julius Caesar, who founded the municipium of Cividale del Friuli at the foot of the mountains. A large part of the Julian Alps is included in Triglav National Park. Some of the highest peaks are: Triglav, Škrlatica, Mangart, Jalovec, Razor...

I found the stamp on the right, issued at the end of January, very beautiful. This is what I found on the Slovenian postal service site: "The lastest greetings stamp bears the motif of one of the padlocs whose number is effectively growing from day to day at the new Mesarski bridge in Ljubljana. By hanging up a locked padlock, couples make a symbolic manifestation of their commitment to entral love. This costum, or now almost ritual practice, is simply a projection of the European or indeed global cultural phenomenon into a Slovenian setting." Have you found your valentine? ;)

Slovenia

Bohinj is a municipality in the northern Slovenia, characterized by the periglacial Lake Bohinj. I like the myth about Bohinj very much, so I'll share it with. Here it comes...
God was giving land to people and as he finished he realized that he had forgotten about a small group of people, who were silent and didn't hustle like the others. Because of their modesty, he felt pity for them. Then he decided to give them the most beautiful land of them all, which he had spared for himself. It's called Bohinj, because in Slovenian God is called "Boh". Beautiful legend, isn't it?

Vesna sent me this postcard last summer. I like the colors of the card. The stamps are nice as well. Thank you, Vesna :)

I received this official postcard from Slovenia in September, 2011. Whenever I receive a postcard from Slovenia, I'm amazed how beautiful Slovenian postcards are - this postcard is just another proof!
The postcard shows Jalovec mountain in the Julian Alps. Jalovec mountain is the sixth highest peak in Slovenia with the height of 2645 meters.

I also adore Slovenian stamps! Thanks to Katarina who sent me this nice card :)

This nice mapcard of Slovenia reached my mailbox in January. It shows biggest towns and natural beauties of Slovenia. Thank you, Jože :)

Slovenia is the country in South-Central Europe, and the crossroad of the main European cultural and trade routes.  Its size is a bit more than 20 000 square kilometers. In Croatia, the jokes about Slovenian small territory are pretty popular :) It's not that small, though. Around 2 million people live in Slovenia.
Slovenia is part of European Union, Eurozone and NATO as well. Its capital city, and also the biggest is Ljubljana.

I would also like to mention that I like Slovenian stamps a lot.
