Austria

Archaeology has become such an interesting topic for me, so when I saw this card in Sarah's album, I knew it had to be mine :) It shows some ceramics found inside the Mondsee Lake. This is actually a UNESCO site card, as prehistoric pile dwellings around the Alps were added to UNESCO World Heritage Site list in 2011.  It's a series of prehistoric pile-dwelling (or stilt house) settlements in and around the Alps built from around 5000 to 500 B.C. on the edges of lakes, rivers or wetlands (111 sites in total).
Because the lakes have grown in size over time, many of the original piles are now under water, giving modern observers the false impression that they always had been. At the Mondsee Lake, piles are also now under the water, somewhere in the middle of the lake, writes Sarah.. Huge thanks, Sarah :D

  1. Such a beautiful card! I've always found prehistory more interesting than anything else, look at those pots, they're so pretty with their decorations and handles :)
