Austria

The Krimml Waterfalls ( Krimmler Wasserfälle) are the highest waterfalls in Austria, with a total height of  380 metres. The falls are on the Krimmler Ache river and are located near the village of Krimml in the High Tauern National Park in Salzburgstate.

The mini-sheet Sarah used is great! It depicts stagecoach with travellers.   Stagecoaches were discontinued in Austria in 1907 when the postal service started relying on automobiles. Thanks again, Sarah!

Austria

Archaeology has become such an interesting topic for me, so when I saw this card in Sarah's album, I knew it had to be mine :) It shows some ceramics found inside the Mondsee Lake. This is actually a UNESCO site card, as prehistoric pile dwellings around the Alps were added to UNESCO World Heritage Site list in 2011.  It's a series of prehistoric pile-dwelling (or stilt house) settlements in and around the Alps built from around 5000 to 500 B.C. on the edges of lakes, rivers or wetlands (111 sites in total).
Because the lakes have grown in size over time, many of the original piles are now under water, giving modern observers the false impression that they always had been. At the Mondsee Lake, piles are also now under the water, somewhere in the middle of the lake, writes Sarah.. Huge thanks, Sarah :D

Austria

The second postcard is a view from the beautiful city of Vienna! Vienna is the capital and largest city of Austria and its political, economical and cultural centre with a population of over 1.7 million.  Vienna is host to many major international organizations, including the United Nations and OPECIn 2001, the city centre was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. But what you mustn't miss if staying in Vienna are Wiener Schnitzel and Sachertorte :)

Austria

My sis seems to be travelling quite a lot these days -  this time she stayed in Austria for a couple of days and sent me not one, but two beautiful cards :D The first one is from Graz, second-largest city in Austria.  Schloßberg, hill dominating the old town (475 m  high), site of demolished fortress, can be seen in the backround.
The old town was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1999 due to the harmonious co-existence of typical buildings from different epochs and in different architectural styles. Situated in a cultural borderland between Central Europe, Italy and the Balkan States, Graz absorbed various influences from the neighbouring regions and thus received its exceptional townscape. Today the old town consists of over 1000 buildings, their age ranging from Gothic to Contemporary.

And all of that with a stamp celebrating 50th anniversary of Österreichisches Freilichtmuseum Stübing, an open-air museum containing old farmhouses and farm buildings from all over Austria reassembled in historic setting, attached. Österreichisches Freilichtmuseum Stübing is also located near the city of Graz.

Austria

This postcard is all about museums although the first think you would probably notice is snow. Well, the buildings that you can see are both museums: the Museum of Natural History and the Museum of Art History plus the stamps represents the second location of the Salzburg Museum of Modern Art, Mönchsberg. Thanks to Romy for this snowy view, while we enjoy unusually sunny days here at western Istrian coast, Croatia.

Austria

Salzburg is a city in Austria situated on banks of the Salzach River. With a population of approximately 150 000 inhabitants, it's the fourth largest city in Austria. Salzburg was the birthplace of composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Josef Mohr, one of two composers and writers of the song Silent Night. Due to a strong connection that city has with the music, Salzburg hosts Salzburg Festival, a very famous music festival, every year. Taking about the sights of Salzburg, it's important to mention that the Old Town of Salzburg was listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list in 1997.
This wonderful postcards which has been in my favourites for a long time reached my mailbox today. I was so happy when I saw it in there :) Thanks, Andrea!

Austria

I would really love to visit Vienna some day. It seems like an amazing city with many nice things to see.
Vienna is the capiatl and the largest city of Austria, with the population of about 1.723 million. It is also the ninth largest city by population in the EU.
The centre of Vienna was listed as the UNESCO World Hertage Site in 2001. It is called "The City of Music" or "The City of Dreams" because it was home of the first pshyco-anlyst Sigmund Freud.
Each year since 2005, Vienna has been the world's number one city by the number of hosted congresses and conventions. About 5 million tourists visit Vienna every year.
The postcard shows the Prater and the giant wheel. I just love these kind of cards. Thanks to Inanna who sent me this card!
