Egypt

Egypt is one of the most populous countries in Africa and the Middle East, and the 15th most populated in the world with over 82 million inhabitants. Most people live near the banks of the Nile River, where the only arable land can be found. The large regions of the Sahara Desert, which constitute most of Egypt's territory, are pretty uninhabited. About half of Egypt's residents live in urban areas, with most spread across the densely populated centres of greater Cairo and Alexandria.

As you probably know, Egyppt is a country with a long and rich history, just to name few world-wide known sites: the Giza pyramid complex, Memphis and Thebes ruins, and the Valley of the Kings outside Luxor.  Egypt's rich cultural legacy, as well as the attraction of its Red Sea Riviera, has made tourism important part of Egyptian economy, employing about 12% of the country's workforce.

The postcard is a photo of the Saladin Citadel of Cairo, a medieval Islamic fortification in Cairo. The location, on Mokattam hill near the center, was once famous for its fresh breeze and grand views of the city.  Thanks to Violeta who was visiting this great country, I got my first written and stamped postcard from Egypt!
